The Engineering Team is part of the Infrastructure Engineering Section within the Infrastructure Department of the Technology Division, and it provides senior‑level engineering support to the rest of the firm.

Working with other Teams (DevOps/DBA’s, Cyber Security, Applications, and Networks) to support and deliver fit-for-purpose solutions, aligned to Business/Technology strategy

The Engineering Team Lead will play an active role in supporting and guiding the IT infrastructure engineering team, working directly alongside engineers to design, implement, and maintain scalable, secure, and reliable systems that underpin the organisation’s operations. This is a hands‑on technical leadership position, combining technical delivery with team coordination. The successful candidate will work closely with a mixed team of project engineers (Windows, Linux, Comms, Desktop), helping shape solutions, assisting with complex technical tasks, and ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with the organisation’s strategic objectives.

·        Work alongside infrastructure engineers on day‑to‑day technical tasks and projects, providing hands‑on support while helping to remove blockers and ensure smooth delivery across the team.
·        Act as a buffer for incoming work, triaging and prioritising requests, assigning tasks effectively, and helping balance workload to maintain team focus and protect engineering time.
·        Support, mentor, and guide team members, encouraging collaboration, sharing of knowledge, and continuous improvement through practical coaching and technical oversight.
·        Conduct regular check‑ins and performance reviews, offering constructive feedback, identifying skill gaps, and working with engineers on tailored development pathways.
·        Oversee and maintain all contracts and licenses (approx. 70), including renewals, cost optimisation, co‑terming for efficiency, and regular vendor relationship management. Ensure full understanding of contract value, cost, and benefit to the firm.
·        Manage all datacentre operations, including hardware lifecycle, goods in/out processes, access requests, and intelligent hands support.
·        Own the lifecycle management of operating systems and infrastructure‑managed applications, ensuring continual evaluation and deployment of vendor security patches, bug fixes, and communication of end‑of‑life milestones to stakeholders.
·        Identify and remediate areas of technical obsolescence, ensuring proactive planning and execution of modernisation activities.
·        Spot recurring issues and drive fix‑at‑source solutions, reducing operational noise and improving platform reliability.
·        Maintain strong, collaborative stakeholder relationships, acting as a trusted partner and ensuring clear, consistent communication.
·        Champion a DevOps mindset, promoting agile delivery practices, shared ownership, and effective collaboration with peer tec

Candidate profile

·        7+ years of previous experience in IT infrastructure roles including operating systems (Windows, Linux, VMWare ESXi).

·        At least 2 years in a technical team leadership position.

·        Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

·        Strong problem-solving, incident management, and decision-making abilities.

·        Proven ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.

·        Strong knowledge of server, network, storage, and virtualization technologies.

·        Understanding of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code (IaC).

·        Experience understanding the benefits of scripting, automation & configuration management tools – SCCM, PowerShell, Terraform, Ansible, Git.

·        Proficiency in the benefits of monitoring tools (e.g. SolarWinds and PagerDuty).

·        Exposure to additional areas of infrastructure with skills in at least 2 other domains (Citrix/SAN/Active Directory/EntraID/MS365/AWS/Cisco Unified Comms).

·        Experience in managing technical support staff & influencing/driving new ways of working & behaviour.

·        Experience in similar fast paced environment.

·        Customer focused with a genuine desire to “do more”.

·        Self-motivated and not afraid to challenge ideas or processes – Speak up.

·        Experience with delivering/supporting cyber security solutions.

·        Good understanding of current (and legacy) HW standards, as well as experience in understanding workloads for migration to the cloud.

·        Any management or project management qualifications, alongside technical qualifications, including Microsoft, Linux, VMware, Citrix, or Cloud accreditation would be beneficial.
